Cross Domain Systems Engineer

Target Salary Range*: $130,000-170,000

Position Overview

The Cross Domain Systems Engineer supports the engineering, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of Department of Defense Cross Domain Solutions. This role supports the full lifecycle required to move a cross domain capability from requirements and architecture through integration, security approval, deployment, and operational sustainment.

The Cross Domain Systems Engineer works within a multidisciplinary engineering environment supporting systems that enable secure data transfer, voice, video, streaming, and application and data services between networks operating at different classification or security levels.


Key Responsibilities

Cross Domain Systems Engineering

  • Perform full lifecycle systems engineering for Cross Domain Solutions, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and sustainment.
  • Design and integrate Cross Domain Solution architectures supporting information transfer between networks operating at different classification levels or security domains.
  • Configure, integrate, test, and troubleshoot commercial and government Cross Domain Solution technologies.
  • Support Everfox High Speed Guard, Trusted Gateway System, Owl XD Bridge / XD Bridge ST, V2CDS, or comparable Cross Domain Solution technologies.
  • Develop and integrate cross domain data flows supporting structured and unstructured data, file transfer, web services, streaming data, voice, video, and other mission-specific protocols.

Security, Authorization, and Compliance Support

  • Support development, configuration, and testing of Cross Domain Solution security filters and associated security policies.
  • Analyze source and destination systems, network interfaces, protocols, data formats, and security requirements to develop approved cross domain data flows.
  • Support NCDSMO Raise the Bar requirements and applicable DoD Cross Domain Solution engineering and security requirements.
  • Support the Cross Domain Solution approval and authorization lifecycle, including coordination with cybersecurity personnel, Cross Domain Support Elements, Authorizing Officials, engineering organizations, vendors, and other government stakeholders.
  • Support RMF, ATO, IATT, Cross Domain Solution authorization, security assessment, vulnerability remediation, and continuous monitoring activities as applicable.

Documentation and Technical Review

  • Develop and maintain engineering and security documentation supporting Cross Domain Solution approval, Assessment and Authorization, and deployment activities.
  • Develop and review system architecture diagrams, interface control documentation, data flow diagrams, installation procedures, test plans, test reports, implementation documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical recommendations regarding Cross Domain Solution architecture, product selection, security considerations, system performance, and implementation risk.

Integration, Testing, and Sustainment

  • Perform Cross Domain Solution integration and testing within development, laboratory, pre-production, and operational environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning Cross Domain Solution applications, Linux operating systems, networks, virtualization, firewalls, routing, protocols, certificates, and connected mission systems.
  • Coordinate directly with Cross Domain Solution vendors to resolve product, configuration, integration, filtering, and performance issues.
  • Support installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, configuration management, and lifecycle sustainment of deployed Cross Domain Solution capabilities.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, test events, deployment activities, and customer engineering discussions.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered depending on candidate background.

Experience

  • Demonstrated systems engineering experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or other national security systems.
  • Experience designing, integrating, administering, testing, or sustaining Cross Domain Solutions.
  • Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, architecture diagrams, test procedures, engineering plans, and implementation documentation.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of cross domain transfer concepts, including high-to-low and low-to-high information transfer, security domains and classification boundaries, data filtering and validation, protocol filtering, structured and unstructured data transfer, data flow security policies, guards, and data diodes.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, certificates, ports and protocols, multicast and unicast traffic, and network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical problems across multiple systems and engineering disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with technical teams, vendors, cybersecurity personnel, and government customers.

Clearance

  • Active DoD security clearance. [Required]

  • Experience with NCDSMO Raise the Bar requirements.
  • Experience supporting Cross Domain Solution approval, authorization, certification, or accreditation activities.
  • Experience working with a DoD Cross Domain Support Element.
  • Experience supporting Cross Domain Solution security assessments, Cross Domain Technical Advisory Board activities, or associated DoD Cross Domain Solution approval processes.
  • Knowledge of SABI, TSABI, NCDSMO CDS Baseline, Lab-Based Security Assessment, RMF, ATO, and IATT processes.
  • Cross Domain Solution filter development or modification experience.
  • Experience with XML, DFDL, schema validation, file-type validation, content filtering, metadata filtering, antivirus or malware scanning, or content sanitization.
  • Experience supporting real-time data, Full Motion Video, VoIP, VTC, SIP, RTP, UDP multicast, or other streaming cross domain applications.
  • VMware/ESXi or other enterprise virtualization experience.
  • DoD 8570 / DoD 8140 compliant cybersecurity certification, such as Security+.
  • Experience working in disconnected, classified, development, integration, or test laboratory environments.
  • Experience supporting tactical or deployed Cross Domain Solution implementations.
