Electrical Engineer

Department: ASRC-KEOS
Location: Kirtland Air Force Base, NM

Location: Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM, USA
Security Clearance: Must be a US citizen and currently possess or be able to obtain/maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

Target Salary Range*: $85,000 - $95,000

*This represents the potential salary range for this position depending on education level, years of experience and/or certifications in addition to other position specific requirements which may impact salary


Position Overview

The Electrical Engineer - Operations will support the sustainment of mission-critical facilities and infrastructure at Kirtland AFB to ensure customer mission success. The position supports the Kirtland AFB Engineering Operations Services (KEOS) contract in Albuquerque, New Mexico.


Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineering and Facility Support

  • Evaluate electrical systems, equipment, and applications.
  • Provide efficient, effective, and timely electrical engineering expertise, including determining electrical loads, generator sizing, and interior electrical design.
  • Consult the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Requirements & Optimization (R&O) playbook upon project initiation to develop maintenance requirements.
  • Assess electrical systems and related requirements.
  • Support the sustainment of mission-critical facilities and infrastructure.

Inspections and Assessments

  • Perform interim and final inspections of equipment installations, repairs and renovations, and new construction.
  • Capture pertinent inspection data for inclusion in the government’s system of record.
  • Perform root cause analysis on systems failing prematurely or systemically.
  • Review work request submissions for scope validity and practicality of performing the work in-house.

Project Planning and Technical Support

  • Collaborate with customer staff, project programmers, cost estimators, and mechanical, structural, and civil engineers to provide technical support for one-off efforts and extended-duration project scoping.
  • Ensure proper specification and integration of electrical systems in construction project packages.
  • Provide specifications and technical language for scope-of-work development.
  • Prepare cost estimates for electrical systems associated with medium- to small-scale projects.
  • Conduct technical reviews of third-party designs, plans, and specifications for construction projects ranging up to tens of millions of dollars.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare reports, briefings, and documents to explain and present project information, technical assessments, and findings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a program certified by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) [Required].

Experience

  • Experience planning and/or performing facility maintenance, improvements, or repairs [Required].

Skills

  • Ability to identify common site architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection/detection system components and understand how they function and operate [Required].
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills [Required].
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently without direct supervision [Required].
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data and prepare daily reports [Required].
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple tasks and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules [Required].
  • Competent and effective computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 applications [Required].
  • Proficient English oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and customers [Required].

Clearance

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and currently possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance [Required].

Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license [Required].
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen [Required].
  • Must be committed to providing for and maintaining a safe working environment [Required].

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in an office environment with extended periods at a computer and in a field environment requiring full range of motion and movement for inspections, assessments, and site visits [Required].
  • Ability to perform physical activities including climbing and working at heights greater than 50 feet, crawling, working outdoors, and repetitive physical tasks involving lifting at least 30 lbs. [Required].

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • Three or more years of experience working in the engineering section at a major military installation, preferably a U.S. Air Force base.
  • Experience performing facility assessments and Real Property Inventory Equipment (RPIE) condition assessments.

Skills

  • Applicable building code and life safety knowledge to provide assessment services.
  • Knowledge of construction management software, project closeout procedures, preventive maintenance, construction and repair terminology, and processes.
  • Familiarity with USAF Civil Engineering guidance, rules, and regulations, including preventive maintenance, real property, linear segmentation, BUILDER, and/or NexGenIT.
